Why TRAINING in a public library?
Because, in 22 years since I am a librarian, I lived all the perception and changes that occoured in our profession.
The moment i decided I can change the ideea of a "dusty old place were you can borrow and return books" that moment was
when the 4 personal computers obtained via Biblionet Program passed over Vrancea's Mountains and arrived in our library
creating new public services, modern and performant, using the new tehnology.
With perseverence, love for the profession and patience we managed to transform the library
into a welcoming place, of information, where you can socialize and educate for the community.
For many of the children that visit the library the computer was the "big box on the table"
as it was for me, before I let myself to be trained by the trainers from Focsani, the PC was a piece of furniture, that needed to be dusted from time to time.
I knew then that, trough training, I will add value to the librarian profession.
I wasn't easy at all. Lookling behind and counting the hours dedicated to children, as a trainer - over 200, I can't to anything else than enjoy.
Without a schedule and without any trainer trainging, I teached everyone that needed
what the Internet is, what Google is, how those can be used to help them with their homework,
How to write in word, how to play online games and
even math is much more beautyfull with Intuitext program.
They learned how to scan files, they created email adresses and they comunicated with their relatives from outside Romanias borders, on Skype and Yahoo! Messenger.
The big challenge was when Naruja Parrish chose us as partners in the project "Choose your school"
organised by The Romanian Parrish in colaboration with Romania World Vision organisation that worked together to prevent school drop-out.
Competing in many sections, the students used the Library Endowment and the help from the librarian
and learned how to make PowerPoint presentations and filmed interviews using Movie Maker, to build essays and draw pictures.
With a great portofolio, Madalina Coroiu obtained second place and a Digital Camera
and Mirela Scarlat obtained first place at the Filmed Interview and laptop, qualifying for the national stage.
But, we shouldn't forget that neither were the library's location is,
neither it's endowments can't stand before the heart giving that the users learned here that they can build bigger walls and durable then the concrete ones:
Walls of trust, love, power, sustainability and loiality.
And about Naruja, we are waiting you all to visit us and I hope I convinced that it is a great and veritable treasure that earned it's place, not only for the turist attraction location from Romania,
but in our hearts and consciousness of those who learn, read or build the future coming to the library, without forgeting the past.
